Since I’ve gotten a few email queries, this is just a note to share that I am fine. Due to my shoulder issues, I stopped lifting weights and have been doing bodyweight strength workouts almost exclusively through Mark Lauren‘s app and that is working very well for me. I may do a post about it, but I don’t know when. It’s a great app and I highly recommend it (marklauren.com), but there is a lot going on in my life right now and I just don’t feel like I have the time anymore. Health-wise I am fine other than shoulder pain that I am undergoing medical treatment for. This blog is not going anywhere. I still use it regularly to choose workouts, mostly rebounder and mobility workouts since strength is via Mark Lauren. One day I hope to be back to writing workout reviews and breakdowns.
Thanks for the update and healing wishes to you! Your blog has been such a great resource and so incredibly helpful to me!

so glad to read your update. It would be great to read the Mark Lauren reviews, though that stuff looks proper hard.
Btw Caroline Girvan has barely bothered to update her app this year (after I’d renewed my app for a year natch), relative to previous years, so at least you’re not missing out on anything new there. I hope it wasn’t doing her volume of working out in the last year with Intent, PE, Iron Pro etc that has hurt your shoulder. Right now I’m off CG and doing a combination of Ladder app and also Chris and Edi, Heather R and DanielPT on YouTubr- it’s been fun. But I have missed reading and using your reviews.
take care and hope you can lift again soon 🙂

I’ve noticed that! Hardly anything new in CGX lately. I also renewed for a year in January, but I stopped using CGX regularly due to my shoulders. She does have quite a few excellent bodyweight workouts I still use on occasion, but her workouts are not functional. Mark Lauren’s are extremely functional and effective, so I have been using his app primarily. And I really need to write the review! It is such a great app!
In addition to my shoulders, I have a lot of other things going on in my life that tends to leave me mentally/emotionally drained which is the other reason I haven’t been working on this blog. It has been going on for a while now and I have been working through it (caring for an incapacitated parent) but then both my father and my FIL passed away within a few months of each other and well, other than the normal grief, dealing with “estates” (quotation marks because that word makes it sound like there is a lot of money, which there is not! Just a lot of headaches.) is very time consuming and draining.
I hope to get my mojo back soon.

Ah no, I’m so sorry to hear of you and your husband’s losses! My condolences. We dealt with this too a couple of years ago, and there really almost isn’t a chance to grieve, as there is so much administrative nonsense to deal with. Hope it eases up for you soon.
Yes, weird silence on the cgx app. Kinda starting to wonder if CG hurt herself doing her 17millonth lunge and that’s why she hasn’t been releasing? She did say something last year in a newsletter like “I’ve never been injured or had any joint or muscle issues whatsoever!” and I thought, shh, knock on wood, don’t tempt the evil eye my friend lol.
I hope you keep feeling stronger and stronger!

Lucky her! I have injured myself more than once! I’ve thrown my back out doing some weird things. I did this one workout by Patrick Goudeau where you are in plank with a step behind you. You jump your feet up onto the step then off (straddling it)–I threw my back out doing that stupid exercise and was down for like a week!

I’m here using your reviews to place a final order for Cathe.com and want to say thank you for being a wealth of information and inspiration over the years. Words can’t express how valuable this site is.
I have battered shoulders too – I got surgery on my right (labral + multiple RC tears) and its solid as a rock now. My left is irritated and I’m muddling through it for now. You’ll find a path that works for you.
I wish you all the best in healing and recovery.

I missed seeing your posts and am glad hear you are fine and just busy with life. I can relate to the shoulder issues, last year I had a traumatic shoulder injury that required two surgeries and months of PT. I could not lift weights for almost all of last year. I finally was cleared in April and have slowly been getting back into it. Hope your shoulder improves and gives you less pain. Take care.

It’s horrible isn’t it? I had rotator cuff surgery in 2020 and went through the PT and long recovery. I do think I did this too myself by trying to lift too heavy too quickly doing Iron Pro. So I will definitely do better in the future.

Hello, I appreciate the update. I’m a longtime subscriber and am so very grateful for the significant amount of time and energy you’ve devoted to your blog over the years. Your posts and incredibly thorough workout reviews have been extremely helpful for us home exercisers, and you inspire me on those early mornings when I don’t feel like getting my workout in before the day starts. I tell myself if you can do it, I can too!
I hope you’re able to work through your shoulder issues and perhaps even get back to heavier upper body training in the future. Sending you positive healing wishes and many, many thanks for your honest opinions, guidance and support of home exercisers around the world!

Good to hear from you! I had been thinking about you and hoping you were okay. I know from the Cathe forums that you live in Oklahoma. I know the state had some terrible tornadoes come through, and I was hoping you weren’t in harms way. I hope you can get back to your weights soon. I am completing my second round of Iron Pro today. I hope you can get back to that program at some point.

Thank you! We always luck out on tornados. I feel like we must live in a depression or something (I’ve never researched the geography) because they always seem to miss the city I live in though they destroy cities and towns all around us.
I’m so jealous! I was really enjoying Iron Pro. But I am afraid that program–or more accurately, me trying to lift too heavy too quickly–is what caused my problems. Even when I start lifting again, I probably need to scale back on how heavy I’m lifting to protect my shoulders.
