I had my rotator cuff surgery 2 weeks ago on 10/13/26. This one feels a lot different than my 2020 surgery. It is more painful and I feel a lot more limited. I’m taking things slow and listening to my physical therapist. But luckily, I’ve gone through this before. I have been looking at my posts from 2020 and doing the workouts I did back then along with a few I have discovered since then. I keep my arm in a sling (I’m required to wear it 24/7 anyway) and do things like low impact walks, body weight and booty band strength training for my lower body and moderate weight training on my right arm.
This blog is going nowhere but I am not sure when I will be back to regular posts. I write this blog anonymously and I plan to continue that for now, but I am going to share something about myself. I wrote for a living 30 years ago. I was never a bestselling author but we did make a decent living when combined with my ex-husband’s salary. Then I got a divorce and was a single mom of two kids. My writing income could not support us so I pulled out the old GI Bill and finished my degree. Going to school, raising kids and working full time left no time for writing books on a deadline so I stopped. It’s been nearly 20 years since I wrote something outside of this blog and reports at my job. I did always plan to return to writing but as something to do when I retire.
Fast forward to this year. I work at a government job. As anyone who hasn’t had their head buried in the sand knows, a lot is going on in our government that does not benefit the majority of us. I am vested and eligible for early retirement but since I’ve only been at my job 19 years, my retirement will only equal about 1/3 of my current salary. A lot of the changes being made have slowly been trickling down to where I work (like stopping all teleworking) but in March they finally hit us harder and will effect my job in particular in the coming months. Not layoffs or anything like that, but possibly eliminating a job I worked hard for and do well. In fact, it is likely I will be forced into another position. I’m not willing to share what I do for a living, but I will say that from the time I started working there I had my eye on one position and once I achieved it, I planned to stay in that position until I retired. I was promoted to it in 2019 and have been doing it ever since. Since that plan has been squashed, I have been doing two things. I started writing again and I have been looking for a new teleworking job.
The writing is taking up all of my free time. When I am not working, commuting or doing required daily living activities, I am researching or writing. I never stopped exercising but I no longer have time to blog about it. When and if I sell a book, I will share that here and start a new blog/website as an author. But I have discovered that the publishing industry is vastly different than it was when I sold my first book in the 1990s, so it will probably be a year or more before I sell another book, if ever.
What does that mean for this blog? I’m not sure. I’m thinking about subscribing to Jessica Smith’s streaming and doing her beginner program once I can use my left arm/shoulder normally and I’d really like to blog about that but time is an issue. This actual blog is going nowhere. WordPress is free so all I pay for is the domain name which is not expensive. So I am not taking it down. But when and if I will start posting again regularly depends on how my current plans pan out.
Thank you for sharing! I hope your recovery goes as smoothly as possible. You continue to inspire me- in the exercise space and now as an author. Good for you for chasing your dreams- can’t wait to follow along on your success.

Thank you so much for the update and your background information! I’m hoping the rehab of your shoulder goes well, and I’ll continue to read anything you post on this blog.
I’d also love to read anything you write outside of this blog! Please keep us updated on when you publish something. I don’t know much about publishing, but I follow several authors who publish through Amazon. Maybe that is something you can check out?
I also feel your pain about government work. I’ve been in government work for over 28 years now, and I’m about a year and 4 months away from retirement. It cannot come soon enough. The uncertainty and upheaval has been exhausting!
I really hope you achieve everything you are looking for, and I know I want to hear about it. I credit you with my developing a love of split workouts and weightlifting in general! I was researching Cathe workouts and found your blog. Your reviews of XTrain convinced me to buy and try splits and from there, I was hooked. I’ve followed you ever since and have tried many different workouts and programs based on your recommendations.
I wish you all the best and can’t wait to hear more about your journey, in fitness and in life in general.
