Foam Roller Exercises is foam roller workout from Jessica Smith. I was kind of sad, but also pleased, to see the late Peanut in this video. Peanut was passed out on the mat with Jessica and looking very sweet. I like this foam rolling practice because Jessica approaches it differently than a lot of the other trainers whose foam rolling workouts I have done so far. She doesn’t do a lot of rolling. She is more about the pressure points, and when she does roll, she does it ultra slow. It actually felt pretty good and deep. She also hits your neck and your low back, which most trainers avoid. I avoided the low back portion because when I tried it, I did not feel good–and not the normal discomfort you feel when foam rolling, but I loved the neck part. Overall a great foam rolling practice.
Foam Roller Exercises is 17:19 minutes. Equipment: foam roller and fitness mat.
- Lay on side with one hip on mat and foam roller under arm, arm is extended overhead, roller is against lats, press lats into roller and slowly roll back and forth (if you find any knots or tender spots, hold in that position); roll back and forward
- Repeat #1 on other side of body
- Lay on back with foam roller under neck, slowly nod head; shake your head side to side
- Sit on mat with foam roller behind low back, place feet on floor with knees bent, lift glutes off mat and, using legs, roll foam roller up and down the length of the spine
- Roll body so side of thigh is on on foam roller, top leg is bent with foot on mat in front of you, slowly roll the roller from knee to hip (IT band)
- Repeat #5 on other leg
- Sit on mat with foam roller under calves, cross one ankle over the other, lift hips and slowly roll out calf; swap leg positions and roll out other calf
- Sit on roller, cross one ankle over other knee so you are leaned onto one glute, roll out glute; swap leg positions to roll out other glute
- Get into forearm plank with foam roller under quads and roll out the quads; turn toes in and continue rolling them; turn toes outward and continue rolling out quads
