This is another one of Caroline Girvan‘s oldest YouTube workouts. She posted this one in June of 2020! While I am waiting for Cathe‘s STS 2.0 to one day ship, I have been revisiting workouts already reviewed on this blog. In fact, I am doing Caroline’s Iron Series workouts this week and next week. The ones I’ve been choosing do not have any abdominal work in them so I decided to try some of Caroline’s short core workouts. This is a short little add on workout that works your abs both on the mat and standing. The first minute is an intro in which Caroline describes each exercise you will do in this workout. Caroline does this workout outside. I liked this workout but I didn’t love it.
5 Minute Abs Workout at Home is 6:24 minutes; 1:05 minute intro, no warm up or stretch. Equipment: fitness mat. Each exercise is done for 30 seconds with no rest/recoveries between. There is a timer in the lower right hand side of the screen counting down each 30 second interval.
- Sit ups (full sit ups, arms are crossed in front of you, knees are bent with feet on ground)
- Hollow to alternating knee tuck (start laying back in hollow hold then raise torso while pulling one knee into chest and tap ankle with opposite hand, hold briefly before returning to hollow hold and repeating on other side of body, continue alternating sides)
- Standing single knee lift (balance on one leg and raise and lower other knee, foot never touches the ground)
- Repeat #3 on other leg
- Standing alt marches (straight leg front kicks, alternate legs and touch toe at top of lift w/ opposite hand)
- Repeat #1-5

I also started taking Holy Basil, after reading your book review , and it’s definitely helped my sleep quality!
I can actually SEE the difference by my Fitbit.
Last night, I added magnesium to it, before bed, and I think it added to it.
It’s only been one night, though.
Thanks for all your help and information!
I never heard of Holy Basil before.
I, too, plan on reading the book.

I’m glad my review was helpful! I am actually implementing a lot of what I read in that book and I am already seeing results. I plan to add an update to the review in a few months. Once I update it I will note it in an update on my Current & Upcoming page. So if you ever look at that, you will see I’ve added the update. But that is still several months away. I will say I am getting amazing results from the Holy Basil! I had never heard of it before but now I am averaging 2-3 hours of deep sleep a night!

I’d LOVE to get that much deep sleep!
I have to work on my caffeine addiction, though.
But, everything else being the same, my deep sleep has doubled!
Even when I get up to use the bathroom, I can easily fall back to sleep now.
That definitely wasn’t the case before.
I really appreciate the work you do here.
I never heard of the book, or Holy Basil, but I already knew I could trust your opinion. 😊

Hey there! Yeah, I’ve been spending my time similar to you while waiting (!!!!) for Cathe to ship – except that I’ve been filling it with Heather’s 3.0. I finished that the week before last. Another great series from her that concentrated more on the cardio/metcon end of things. I used Caroline for strength fillers. Last week and this week I’m doing some Sydney while I wait for more Heather workouts to be put out.
What happened to Caroline??!? 🤨 I’ve heard absolutely nothing about what she is up to and she hasn’t put out any new material in 6 months!

I don’t know. I have wondered about her though she does not owe anyone an explanation. However, in her videos she does really seem to enjoy creating content for people. Part of me wonders if some creeper/stalkers got weird. I follow another trainer (Bully Juice) who did a video because a woman genuinely thought she was in a relationship with him and felt angry and betrayed when she found out he had a wife and child! We cannot begin to comprehend what goes on in other people’s minds (particular people with mental illness) and Caroline is a beautiful woman who comes across as warm and genuine in her videos. Some weirdo probably decided she was the love of his (or her!) life and did something that made Caroline decide she was done with social media–to protect herself and her family. But that is just a thought! I have no info or clue, just wonderings based on what I’ve seen happen to other influencers. I wondered about her at first, but anymore I don’t care. Not because I don’t love her workouts. I do, but she created so much quality content. I happen to really, really love the Iron Series. But once I feel I need more, she has EPIC I, II, II, all of which I haven’t done much of. Plus many EPIC Heats I haven’t done and many other mini-series workouts I haven’t tried. And then of course, returning to the awesome workouts of hers I have done and reviewed! Though, like I said, I am really stick on her Iron Series right now.
RE: Heather. I am actually getting burned out on trying new workouts by her, as they are relatively similar. FOMO has passed for me. I am also changing the way I do things based on the book I recently read and reviewed here (Next Level). It has made me put a lot more thought into the type of workouts I do and how I structure my workout week.

Hmmm … Those are some pretty deep thoughts about Caroline but they would make sense. I enjoy her workouts, too, and I’m right there with you in terms of having so many more that I haven’t even done the first time yet! I’ve had to back off on some of my weights again because of recurring shoulder issues (argh!) but I do what I can.
I thought your book review was great! So great, in fact, that I asked hubs to get it for me. In the meantime I’ve started taking holy basil which has helped my sleep quality – yay!!
