JessicaSmithTV: Stride & Step

Stride & Step is a YouTube cardio step workout from Jessica Smith. It is a great, short, uncomplicated cardio workout. And exactly what I need after a long day at work. Some thoughtless cardio. I really enjoyed it. And as an aside–this is what I have been missing! Not this workout specifically, but doubles. I haven’t done doubles since January of 2018. First depression (from cancer diagnosis) brought my doubles to a halt. Then cancer treatment. I have been feeling better for a while and I don’t know why it hasn’t occurred to me to start doing doubles again. I started back up this week and it has seriously felt so good. Before January 2018, I did doubles every day after work for years. I did not realized how much I missed it until I started doing it again. I feel like after more than a year and a half–I’m finally back! (Doubles, btw, is just a second workout of the day. I workout an hour every morning and, when I do doubles, I do a second, 30-40 minute workout after I get home from work.)

Anyway, I totally enjoyed this workout. It’s not super intense, but it is a solid cardio workout. And Jessica’s precious French Bulldog Peanut joins us. Now that I started doing doubles again, I have a whole list of Jessica’s 30 minute YouTube cardio workouts I will be doing. So there is lots more coming.

Stride & Step is 36:30 minutes; 7 minute warm up and 3 minute cool down/stretch. Jessica is using a square step at 6 inches. I’m not going to break this workout down, but the moves included in this workout are basic steps, side step taps, V steps straddling step, step knee, step and lift leg behind you, knee raise while tapping foot side and back, knee raise while stepping forward and back w/ a squat while stepping, over the top. You also do some steps on the floor: hamstring curls, cross over mambo steps w/ cha-cha step to change sides, straddle turning V steps. A few of the moves (on the step) actually burned out my legs!

  1. Thank you for replying. I just bought the set. At 46 I am finding that I don’t want to stop gaining strength but I simply can’t lift the amount of weight I used too. At $35 with amazon prime I could t resist.

    Thanks again

  2. Hello again,

I am doing the Fusion Flow workouts every three or four days as part of my current rotation. One of the other routines is the 2004 Pump-it-up that I suggested you show your husband to get him to work out. Perfect music for exercise and great eye-candy.

I have most of Mark Lauren’s dvd’s but not the 90-Day Challenge. I went to Amazon to read reviews, but found that they have the reviews of all his workouts jumbled together, so you can’t always be sure which one the reviewer is writing about. That is true of other exercise personalities as well. I don’t understand why they need to do that. Anyway, I am looking forward to your report.

Oh, before I go, Linda’s workouts always surprise me. They look so easy, but have me breathing heavily in a very short time. I think that it is because she doesn’t even take a one-second breather. I find myself wondering how fast she can run a marathon.

    1. I know! Linda is a machine. She wears me out. I love how sometimes she will say she is in pain yet she says it with such a serene expression on her face, still doing every rep with perfect form–whereas I am making loud pain noises.

      1. Another person who is like that is Chalene Johnson. Even during “Drench” she sounds like she is sitting on a sofa watching, rather than doing the workout. I, on the other hand, will be having difficulty staying conscious.

    1. It’s tough! But excellent. I just completed week 8, so 5 more weeks to go. It is doing the job–I am doing push ups on my toes again and as of the end of week 7 I did 44 push ups on my toes in the course of one workout. Prior to the 90 Day Challenge I could do 0. In fact, the last time I was able to do a push up on my toes was January 2018. I am actually surprised at how quickly it has helped me regain my strength.

With that said, it is repetitive and my exercise ADD has kicked in big time. Lately, I have had to talk myself into finishing the 90 days a couple times a week! But I am sticking it out.

  3. Hello,

I guess that I should know this, but what are doubles? Doing the workout twice? I tried Google, but got everything except how it would apply here.

BTW, it occurred to me that you had not posted in a while. Don’t worry me like that. Thank you.

    1. Hi Bob! I updated the post so people know what doubles are. It’s a second workout of the day for me. I workout every morning for an hour and when I do doubles, I am doing a second workout in the afternoon after I get home from work.

I haven’t been posting as much because I am in the middle of Mark Lauren’s 90 Day Challenge. But now that I am doing doubles again, I’ll be doing lots of new-to-me doubles workouts. So more posts!

Are you still doing Linda’s Fusion Flow workouts? I’ve been doing them the days I not doing a Mark Lauren workout.
