AngieFitnessTV: Fit Over 40 Cardio Boxing

Cardio Boxing is part of AngieFitnessTV‘s Fit Over 40 program. This workout is the Day 6 workout. This is a very basic low impact cardio boxing workout. It is not terribly intense but if you are wearing weighted gloves, your arms will get some work. Put a lot of energy into every punch and you will get even more out of it. I wore one pound weighted gloves and an 8 pound weighted vest. According to my FitBit I burned 207 calories and was in my cardio zone 27 of the 31 minutes. Not bad when the warm up and stretch compose 10 minutes of the workout. Use heavier gloves and you will get even more out of it. I own 2 pound gloves but I am only 2 days into using even very light weight on my left side so I didn’t want to push it. I do love boxing and kickboxing workouts so I will try this again when I can use my 2 pound gloves. I also “pulled” back on a lot of left side moves because I am afraid to really give left side punches my all. But again, if you are injury free, you can get a lot more of this workout than I did.

A few oddities about this workout. After the warm up ends you have this long moment of nothing. Angie walks off camera and the music stops. It is very odd. After about 30 seconds the music starts again and Angie appears directly in front of the camera to adjust it then it cuts to the workout actually starting. Again, kind of weird. There are more issues that you will need to correct in your own way. The intended structure of this workout is 5 exercises each done for 60 seconds. Then you repeat those 5 exercises on the other side of your body. Then the entire 10 exercise/10 minute circuit is repeated again. It is literally just looped around again so any mistake in the first circuit is repeated. With that in mind, here is what actually happens. You do the 5 exercises on one side of the body and when you repeat them on the other side of the body she leaves out #5 and adds in #7. I wasn’t not pleased with this because there isn’t a lot of lower body involvement in this workout so I welcomed the 2 knee pulls. Plus I wanted to do all of the moves equally on both sides of the body. So when we repeated the circuit, I did #5 on the other lead. I did the same thing with #7–I did it on the other lead so that at least both sides of my body were worked equally by the end of the workout. This sounds like criticism but it really is not. Angie is filming live and $hit happens. I understand that. I am grateful she creates so many wonderful workouts for the home exerciser. But the entire reason for this blog is for my own reference. When I want to do a workout again, I re-read these reviews and it helps me prepare for the workout ahead. So this will remind me that I will need to made some adjustments/modifications to work both sides of my body equally–and also that I want to increase the weight of my gloves the next time. So there is a reason I document these things.
